Description
Our new Sensory Kids classes are for children with sensory issues such as higher level autism, learning disabilities, and even some attention span disorders.
Art fits naturally with sensory issues because it is essentially a calm and soothing activity. It can also help autistic children express themselves through images in ways that face-to-face interactions can’t.
Attitude Magazine had this to say in an article about ADHD Therapies:
“Art therapy uses the processes of drawing, painting, and sculpting to improve well-being and confidence in kids. It is based on the premise that self-expression can be used to address emotional problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness. One does not have to be a da Vinci to benefit from art therapy.”
“Making art generates a relaxation response and improves a child’s mood. Creative activity increases brain levels of serotonin, the lack of which can lead to extreme sadness. Manipulating clay for five minutes can reduce stress hormones more than squeezing a stress ball.”
These will be smaller classes that run for a shorter period of time. During these Sensory Kids classes we will work with the children to find out what art activity works best for them and help them to develop new artistic skills. Your child will have a plethora of art examples to choose from or we will help them choose one from the internet. If painting doesn’t satisfy them, we will find an art activity that will.
